Why We Became a CrossFit Affiliate
IRONSKY is now a licensed CrossFit affiliate. The name we use with you is CrossFit IRONSKY.
If you already train with us, this is not a change of direction. We have been training this methodology for thirteen years and coaching it for ten. Affiliating did not make us start doing CrossFit. It made us say so under the name that built the method.
The longer answer is worth writing down, because the decision took thirteen years to make.
Thirteen years training, ten coaching
We did not find CrossFit as gym owners looking for a product. We found it as athletes.
Before IRONSKY existed, we trained and coached inside CrossFit affiliates. That is where we learned what an affiliate actually is from the inside, first as members, then as coaches. We learned what a good class feels like on the floor, how scaling works when the person in front of you has a bad shoulder and forty minutes, and how a room full of strangers turns into people who notice when you miss a week.
By the time we opened our own doors in 2019, the methodology was not something we had bought into. It was the way we understood fitness: measurable, repeatable, and open to anyone willing to show up.
Ten years of coaching classes teaches you things no certificate covers. How to scale without making someone feel scaled. How to keep people healthy for a decade instead of impressive for a season. How to keep them coming back.
Competition, and what it actually gave us
We compete. Individually, as a gym, online and onsite. We have reached the Quarterfinals of the CrossFit Open.
But the scores are not the part that mattered.
Every year we travel as a group to events around Europe. The Athens Throwdown. The Belgrade Games. The Amsterdam Throwdown. Members book flights together, share rooms, warm up together, and stand in the same corner of a loud venue shouting for someone they train beside every Tuesday.
Something happens on those trips that does not happen in a class. You meet another gym, from another country, who trains the way you train and cares the way you care, and by the end of the weekend you know their names. That has happened to us on every single trip. It is the same passion, wearing a different logo.
That is what a community looks like when it has room to travel. Training with purpose, testing it, and coming home closer than you left.
The education behind the coaching
We take the credential path seriously, because you are trusting us with your body and your time.
Phedias Demou has completed the full CrossFit trainer path: Level 1, Level 2, and the Certified CrossFit Trainer (CCFT, Level 3). The CCFT is the accredited end of that ladder, and it does not stay valid on its own. It is renewed every three years with continuing education, documented coaching hours, and current CPR. He is also an ELEIKO certified Strength Coach.
Constantinos Polychronis, co-owner and Head Coach, holds an MSc in Sport Science.
Theodosia Demetriou holds a BSc in Sports Science and Medicine, her CrossFit Level 1, and the CrossFit Gymnastics course. She runs our kids classes. The gymnastics specialty is not a general credential; it is a deliberate one, and it is the reason our pull-up and handstand progressions look the way they do.
Between the formal education and the years on the floor, both halves of the craft are covered. Neither half works without the other. A degree does not teach you how to run a busy 18:30 class, and ten years on the floor does not teach you the physiology behind why the plan is built the way it is.
The education nobody hands you a certificate for
The courses are the visible part. The ongoing part is bigger and quieter.
We read the CrossFit Journal and the training guides, and we re-read them. We watch coaching breakdowns and movement analysis. We go to seminars. We follow the research and the arguments inside the methodology, including the ones we disagree with, because a coach who stopped learning in 2019 is coaching a 2019 gym.
Most of it never shows up as a line on a wall. It shows up in a cue that finally makes your snatch click. In a programming decision you never see, made three weeks before you feel the benefit. In a coach telling you to pull back today, which is usually the harder call.
Our coaching philosophy comes down to one line we hold ourselves to: good coaches know when to push, great coaches know when to protect.
Where all of it lands
Thirteen years of training, ten of coaching, the credentials, the competitions, the trips, the reading. It funnels into three things you can actually feel in a class.
Coaching that is worth paying for. Someone watching your movement who knows what they are looking at, and who will scale you down on the day that calls for it.
A community you would come back for even on the days you do not feel like training. Built over years, not printed on a wall.
Coaches who still care after ten years of coaching. That is the one we are proudest of, and the hardest to fake.
Affiliating makes the commitment official. It connects us to the wider community that taught us the method in the first place, and it holds us to the standard that method deserves.
What we want from here is simple. A gym in Larnaca where everyday people train well for decades, not months. Bigger space, same purpose, more people reached.
The name changed. The reason we do this did not.
